Symmetries and Universality – Learning Club talk by Dr. Ethan Fetaya

July 26, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm IDT

On Sunday 26.1 12:00 we will host Ethan Fetaya. Ethan will present his ICML best paper on Symmetries and Universality (joint work with Haggai Maron, Or Litany and Gal Chechik). See paper here, and further details below.
The talk will take place over zoom like last time. Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/99197317021
See you all soon,
Felix
Title: “Symmetries and Universality”
Abstract: Many successful learning algorithms restrict the model to be invariant to certain symmetries in order to improve learning and generalization. We will first discuss whether these model can represent all invariant functions, or do they lose expressive power. We will then talk about a more complex case, where we have sets of symmetric elements, analyse the invariant networks, discuss universality and show that they work well in practice on a variety of problems and data domains.
